Former NFL star Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to address an murder attempt charge stemming from a gunfire that took place in May, with his counsel filing a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Detention records in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his move to Florida. Brown, among the most famous players in the National Football League, had forgone transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was detained after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has earlier filed a formal innocent plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail hearing, Eiglarsh stated.

According to his arrest order, Brown is alleged of grabbing a firearm from a security staffer after a celebrity fighting bout in May and shooting multiple shots at a man he had confronted with earlier. The alleged individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that a bullet grazed his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was merely safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged individual’s aggressive behavior. Brown was attacked that time and responded within his lawful entitlement to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not immediately apprehended because originally officers did not identify Nantambu as a target. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a detailed account about the situation to officers and named Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit says.

Based on his digital posts, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a update after the altercation, Brown stated he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple individuals who sought to take my jewelry and inflict bodily damage to me.”

A second-degree attempted murder accusation in Florida carries a highest fifteen-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 penalty in the case of a finding.

Brown has faced numerous legal issues over the time. He previously had been accused of physical attack of a truck employee, multiple domestic violence charges, failure to pay child support and additional incidents.

Throughout a 2021 season game with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown stripped off his uniform, shoulder pads and accessories and ran off the stadium, leading to his termination by the Buccaneers and effectively halting his football tenure.

Brown, who spent twelve years in the NFL, was an elite player who spent the bulk of his time with Pittsburgh. For his career, Brown had over 900 catches for above twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth highest of record. He was a multiple-time prestigious pick.
